Whittlesea and Surrounds Boomerang Bags

Hello, welcome and please join us!  We are a very active group, meeting every week in two locations come rain, hail or shine!

We absolutely love our volunteers and we have become close friends, chatting constantly and enjoying provided lunch while we sew, pin, iron and cut to make a positive difference to the environment.

Whittlesea Township is a country town right at the end of Plenty road in Melbourne’s north. Our local Men’s Shed made some Boomerang Bag boxes and these are stationed at Delightful Frootz green grocer and the IGA supermarket. We also supply the town library, various cafes and gift shops etc whenever we can.

We are extremely grateful to the Whittlesea Community House for their hospitality, guidance and support. We meet each Wednesday at Kinglake Library 10-3pm and Thursday at Whittlesea Library 10-3pm.

**Working with the House allows us to help those who need to meet their 15hrs of in-kind volunteer obligations.**

Launched in July 2017 and still going strong in 2024!

You can see us at a variety of markets in 2024. We have a huge to-do list including a bunting hire library, wet bags for the local kinder, baby storytime quilts made from the bag scraps which are donated to every surrounding library regardless of council, plastic feed bags turned into Cash for Cans collecting bags since Victoria just started a .10c return scheme. Wheat bags for hospitals, cancer pillows and drainage bags in collaboration with the Country Women’s Association and Days For Girls projects in collaboration with the Whittlesea Lion’s Club.

We restock the supermarkets every Wednesday and Thursday weekly. Year round we also make dog beds, draft stopper snakes and foot ottomans from scraps on a monthly basis. Please text or call Ursula on 0431312647 if you’d like to hold one otherwise they’re donated.

Custom orders! We can screen print pretty much any business or project logo onto bags for a bulk order. We are volunteers and do this to provide an accessible alternative to cheap imported merchandise.

All welcome. This is an accepting, safe space for all views and opinions on all topics.
