Boomerang Bags Whitsundays

Whitsundays Community Boomerang Bags are located in Airlie Beach.

Being part of the Great Barrier Reef, reusable fabric bags are important to our community, to help save the environment, wildlife and sea life, like the turtles who mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, while also keeping the dream of reducing plastic bags moving along.

Located in Airlie Beach but, we have people in the wider Whitsunday Community who love to sew bags. Some people sew at home or with friends and some like to sew as part of a group.

Visitors and locals are all welcome to help sew bags and if you are not able to sew one of our amazing people will teach you, just contact us.

Some people may like to sew, some may prefer to cut up the fabric and others may like to set up a stall at the local markets. It isn’t about one person doing everything, it’s about a community doing what they can to help.

We also supply the ladies at the Women’s prison in Townsville with fabric which they turn into bags for us to share around the community. This is a great program providing these ladies with so much more than just sewing skills.

Plastic never breaks down, it breaks up into smaller pieces of plastic, microplastics which end up in the water we drink and food we eat.
