Faribault Buckham Memorial Library
Help Buckham Memorial Library tackle plastic pollution in Faribault! Patrons checking out materials from the library will be able to select their own Boomerang Bag to use, keep, trade and reuse. Each Boomerang Bag is handmade using donated, second-hand fabric. Dedicated seamsters volunteer their time and talents to create these cloth tote bags to share with library patrons.
As of June 2019, we have given out over 1,000 Boomerang Bags and cut our ordering of plastic bags in half!
Buckham Memorial Library hosts sewing bees to create these wonderful bags on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All of the Boomerang Bag sewing bees will be held in the library’s 3rd floor makerspace area.
Aren’t interested in sewing or learning to sew? You can still help! Buckham Memorial Library accepts donations of clean, second-hand fabric. The smallest usable pieces of material should be at least 18″ x 36″ for the body of the bag or 4′ x 24′ for the straps. Please place your donations in the fabric collection box near the main entrance of the library.
